How is acting different from “regular life”? How do we confidently express thoughts and feelings in front of an audience? These are the questions we will explore as we learn a variety of acting techniques to believably portray a character. Our final class meeting will showcase our work over the course of the term.
Class Act: Cabaret Class for Teens and Adults
up to 15 students | 3:30-5:30pm | Tuition: $300/ 7 weeks
Cabaret performance in America is a terrific melting pot of its own in terms of influence and eclectic themes and possibilities. From its roots in storytelling and one-person song and dance shows, the tradition of the cabaret is an intimate performance art that invites the audience to learn more about the performer than the character behind each song. Join students in a two hour class with a piano accompanist that will explore different ways to sell a song of any style within a group cabaret performance. Each artist will have the opportunity to sing their chosen solo pieces and receive feedback from the artist-teacher and group. The class will then pull together rehearsed selections which culminate in a public performance during the final class.
