Auditions

Legacy is now scheduling in-person auditions, as well as accepting online submissions for our upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.

Please be sure to read all of the information below prior to scheduling or submitting for an audition.

The Show:

After being swept away to the magical land of Oz, Dorothy befriends the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion as she confronts the Wicked Witch of the West and tries to make heay back to Kansas.

Available Roles:

DOROTHY - 18-20 (to read younger), female identified, any race/ethnicity, Mezzo-Soprano. Dorothy has a sweet, innocent presence, which masks a brave and loyal streak. This role may require flying.

AUNT EM/GLINDA - 40’s-50’s, female identified, any race/ethnicity, Soprano. Aunt Em is a tough farmer who doesn’t suffer fools. She loves her niece, but doesn’t tolerate her nonsense. Glinda is the Good Witch of the North, a warm and welcome presence everywhere she goes. This role requires flying.

UNCLE HENRY/EMERALD CITY GUARD - 40’s-50’s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, Baritone or Tenor. Uncle Henry is a farmer who has a soft spot for Dorothy, but always sides with his wife when challenged. Emerald City Guard takes his job seriously and never wants to cross the Wizard.

HUNK/SCARECROW - 20’s-40’s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, Tenor. Hunk is a goofy farmhand who works for the Gales. The Scarecrow quickly befriends Dorothy on the road to Oz. He has more brains than he gives himself credit for. This role calls for an excellent dancer with good comedic instincts.

HICKORY/TIN MAN - 20’s-40’s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, Tenor. Hickory is a cranky, bossy farmhand who works for the Gales. The Tin Man befriends Dorothy on the road to Oz. He has more heart than he gives himself credit for. This role calls for a strong mover with good comedic instincts.

ZEKE/COWARDLY LION - 20’s-40’s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, Tenor. Zeke is a big-talking farmhand who works for the Gales. The Cowardly Lion befriends Dorothy on the road to Oz. He has more courage than he gives himself credit for. This role calls for a strong, physical comedian who sings and moves very well.

MISS GULCH/WICKED WITCH - 30’s-50’s, female identified, any race/ethnicity, Mezzo-Soprano. Miss Gulch lives nearby the Gale family’s farm. She’s got a mean streak and friends in high places. She hates dogs and anyone who gets pleasure out of life. The Wicked Witch is on a mission to avenge her sister’s death after Dorothy kills her by accident. This role requires flying.

PROFESSOR MARVEL/WIZARD - 50’s-60’s, male identified, any race/ethnicity, any vocal part. Professor Marvel is a charlatan who encounters Dorothy when she runs away. He uses trickery to tell her fortune. The Wizard is much the same, a man who has amassed power by pretending to be something he’s not. This role requires flying.

ENSEMBLE - The Adult Ensemble will consist of singer/dancers who will play a variety of minor roles and cover the principal roles listed above.


In-Person Auditions and Callback Dates:
Open Auditions: Saturday, April 18 from 11am-4pm, and Sunday, April 19 from 10am-1pm
Callbacks: Sunday, April 19 from 1pm-4pm
An accompanist will be provided.

Audition/Submission Requirements:
• Headshot
• Resume
• A brief song in the style of the show
Optional: a short monologue, special skill, or personality showcase
• Please keep videos submissions to approximately 3 minutes.

Additional Notes:
• Actors should be local or have local housing
• Equity and Non-Equity contracts are available
